Bhugra (mental health and cultural diversity, King's College London) and fellow British scholars cite and describe key scientific papers published over the past three decades dealing with public attitudes to mental illness and psychiatry in countries around the world. Most of the studies reported sampled opinions of workers or patients in mental health fields and of college students generally, but some researchers ventured beyond the hospital and academy and talked to members of the general population or other specific groups.
