I want to mention that I am subscribing out of gratitude as well as interest. I wanted to replace my entire stereo system, and was about to start by purchasing a pair of B&Ws when I happened to spot David Rich's review of the Infinity infinity, in mathematics, that which is not finite. A sequence of numbers, a1, a2, a3, … , is said to "approach infinity" if the numbers eventually become arbitrarily large, i.e.  Beta 40s while browsing See browse.  magazines at Barnes & Noble. , when I saw the Beta 50s on the Circuit City website at a price so low that I now believe it to have been an error (They were less than the 40s.) I snapped them up. Thanks to David Rich, I not only got fabulous speakers, but saved so much money that I was able to buy an entire system--speakers, turntable A playback machine for vinyl phonograph records, which were a major music distribution medium throughout the 20th century. As a bonus, the unique metal grills on the Beta 50s render the speakers impregnable to cats, of which I have too many. Please thank David Rich for me.

I wish you would review Ohm Walsh speakers. I've been aware of them for years but have never had a chance to hear them. Another subject I would like to see you cover is Japanese speakers. They seem to be almost universally ignored by the audio community. Are they all so terrible? I would also like to see you comment on the utility--or lack thereof--of the audio reviews published in Consumer Reports. Are they perhaps a little too Sensible?

Thanks again to you and your estimable es·ti·ma·ble

Thanks for the kind words. We did review some Ohms quite some time back, but father back than I now have on disc, so I can't find the issue. David Rich has not really seen any Japanese speaker designs on the market to be tested--most Japanese speakers sold here these days tend to be quite inexpensive. Pioneer had some interesting speakers a few years ago, but they were actually designed in France. Regarding the quality of the reviews in Consumer Reports, David declines public comment but suggests you might see what Sean Olive has to say in some of his recent papers on using trained audio listeners to evaluate loudspeaker loudspeaker or speaker, device used to convert electrical energy into sound.
