A sampler of election letters.

Every vote counts

Upset about my 18th birthday being one month too late, I clicked the remote nervously through commentators such as Tom Brokaw Thomas John Brokaw (born February 6, 1940 in Webster, South Dakota) is a popular American television journalist, Previously working on regularly scheduled news documentaries for the NBC television network, and is the former NBC News anchorman and managing editor of the program  and Dan Rather describing images of red and blue state diagrams state diagram - state transition diagram . I waited in anticipation for the presidential election results that seemed as if they would never come. A winner was eventually declared many days later, but clear election results never came.

The election mess brought to me two possible conclusions: Either people will be discouraged dis·cour·age

1. To deprive of confidence, hope, or spirit.

2. To hamper by discouraging; deter.

the most sacred right that we have.

Taking advantage of this right to vote is fundamentally the most important thing we can do - not just for national offices, but for state and local offices. With the primary elections coming up on May 21, we can make an impact by voting. Even though I am discouraged by the results of the last presidential election, I know that I will create change in the future by making sure my voice is heard.

Starting on May 21, I will vote.

Pape brings balance

Gary Pape strongly supports additional funding for fire protection and emergency medical services An Emergency medical service (abbreviated to initialism "EMS" in many countries) is a service providing out-of-hospital acute care and transport to definitive care, to patients with illnesses and injuries which the patient believes constitutes a medical emergency. .  how he could be much clearer. And while fire protection and emergency medical service is a very important issue in Ward 5, it is not the only issue.

Pape works hard on all the issues important to Ward 5. As a strong advocate for our kids, he fought to secure more park land and develop more parks on the north side of town. It was Pape who pushed to put the West Eugene Parkway The West Eugene Parkway was a proposed re-alignment of Oregon Route 126 through the western parts of Eugene, Oregon and its suburbs. Highway 126 through western Eugene currently runs along several surface streets (including West 11th Avenue); this route is well-known in the Eugene  on the ballot to get it back on track. And he is working to bring more jobs to Eugene by changing the city's anti-business reputation. He went to bat both here and in Washington, D.C., to help bring the new federal courthouse to the old Agripac site to jump start the redevelopment of that area.

Pape's civic volunteer work didn't start with his first term on our City Council; he has contributed to the community for years. He brings needed balance to the council. It is imperative that he be retained as councilor in Ward 5. I'm voting for Gary Pape and look forward to him serving our ward and our city for four more years.

Give Henson a chance

Can't decide who to vote for in the Democratic primary race in House District 12? Vote for Rick Henson. He is a working man, a family man and a man who has the interest and welfare of his community and state at heart.

Some have said that Henson isn't experienced enough. My answer is that no one is experienced at anything until they have had an opportunity to do it. Some of the "experienced" ones haven't really done much for us.

Give Rick Henson the chance to make a difference and have confidence that he can.

Morrison works hard

For years Anna Morrison has worked hard for her community, and now she is sharing her energy and expertise with the rest of western Lane County as our district's current commissioner.

It is great to know that we have someone in county government that we can call when we have an issue. I know that Morrison reads our e-mails and responds to our calls. I know she has hand delivered land use permits to people in her district.

I have seen her out among the people in her district, and I know that she works very hard for all of us in western Lane County.

Why would we vote for anyone else this election cycle when we have the best in Commissioner Anna Morrison? I want to express my appreciation to her. She has my vote again.

Lininger is well qualified

As the mayor of Cottage Grove Cottage Grove, village (1990 pop. 22,935), Washington co., SE Minn., near the St. Croix River; inc. 1965. There is farming (cattle, sheep, corn, and soybeans) and manufacturing (chemicals and machinery). , I've seen first-hand that Tom Lininger can accomplish a great deal for our rural communities in East Lane County.

Lininger has prosecuted dangerous criminals in our area. He helped with our economic development while serving on the Lane Economic Committee. He stuck up for rural schools as the chair of the Lane School Boards Association.

He puts his money where his mouth is. He's turned down campaign contributions and urged the donors instead to pass their money along to charities that help kids in rural Lane County.

I think he will make an outstanding county commissioner for the East Lane District.

Burch deserves support

A last-minute reflection: Don't you agree that after all the hours, months and years that Dianne Burch has devoted to public service to western Lane county she deserves our votes for Lane County commissioner?

She is hard working, honest and knowledgeable about the problems and needs of citizens of all ages. I feel that Burch has the energy and the heart for this very important responsibility - and she has my vote.

We need judges with experience in the community. That's why I'm voting for Dave Hunnicutt.
