A road map to peace.I returned from a fact-finding trip to Palestine in time to read your interview with Rabbi Ruth Langer (Expert Witness, "Sensitivity Training," August). I was surprised by her comment that "at the moment the only thing Israel can do to solve that [Palestinian] situation is to cease to exist." In fact, among the things Israel could promptly do to bring the Palestinian suffering to resolution without "ceasing to exist" are: returning to the 1967 borders; ending the building of settlements on Palestinian land; closing the 600 internal checkpoints; permitting Palestinians adequate access to water; providing basic civil rights; ending the beatings and torture of prisoners; and ending the unjustified demolition of thousands of Palestinian homes. I am sure that Langer is an excellent teacher who will study the Palestinian situation in greater detail before commenting on it again so flippantly. David T. Maloof Rye, N.Y. I want to thank Rabbi Ruth Langer for her unvarnished answers to issues affecting Catholic-Jewish dialogue. I had been embarrassed when we prayed for the conversion of Jews on Good Friday. Did we pray for the conversion of Muslims or Protestants? Langer helped me understand what effect Pope Benedict's moves have had in her community. She is paving the way by speaking truth.
