A quick checklist.

Immediately after conducting an interview, I reflect on the candidate's answers. I use a simple checklist with seven questions. If I find I have checked "yes" to most of the questions, I probably have a candidate with the disposition to teach.

* Has a "can do" attitude.

* Can identify with diverse populations.

* Thinks all students can learn.

* Believes students are able and worthy.

* Sees the larger, long-term goals Long-term goals

Financial goals expected to be accomplished in five years or longer.
 of teaching.

* Is people-oriented rather than thing-oriented.

* Believes building relationships is a key to learning.
