A prayer modified.


Eatonville, Wash., Superintendent Ray Arment, a fan of military history, stumbled across General Patton's "Weather Prayer" that a chaplain under his command issued before a momentous battle in 1944 in which he asked for restraint from "immoderate im·mod·er·ate  
adj.
Exceeding normal or appropriate bounds; extreme: immoderate spending; immoderate laughter. See Synonyms at excessive.

Arment prepared a modified version of the prayer for his own purposes:

"Almighty and most merciful mer·ci·ful
