Each of these sessions began with a brief introduction to the RCM Examinations system and thoughts from the examiner-clinicians on how being involved in this third-party assessment process had shaped and defined their teaching.

Next, the complete exam for the given grade was administered by one of the examiners. Teachers were provided with marking forms and invited to assess the exams by writing comments and assigning marks. In all cases the "candidates" performed admirably given that instead of just one examiner, they found themselves being adjudicated by a room full of teachers.

Highlights of these sessions included a set of twins who shared the Grade 5 Violin exam, and a mother-daughter ensemble who presented the Grade 6 Voice exam.

After the exams were completed, candidates were asked to leave the room, and the examiners shared their comments and marks with the teachers. Many teachers found themselves completely in line with the examiners' assessment, while others had questions about how marks were allotted al·lot

Participants came away from these sessions with clearer expectations in terms of how the examinations are conducted and assessed.
