A peaceful setting for children to learn war.


Youngsters spent the weekend learning about the war at one of the region's most picturesque sites.

Children were invited to Tynemouth Castle and Priory Tynemouth Castle is located on a rocky headland (known as Pen Bal Crag), overlooking Tynemouth Pier (). The moated castle-towers, gatehouse and keep are combined with the ruins of the Benedictine priory where early kings of Northumbria , where they experienced the sights and sounds of World War Two.

North Tyneside North Tyneside is a metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear in the North East of England. Its seat is at the Town Hall, Wallsend.

Created in 1974, the borough lies within the historic county boundaries of Northumberland.
 Council organised the event, which involved around 60 children and their families taking part in special themed activities.

All those attending have taken part in the Chatterbooks reading scheme and members will be voting for their favourite book.

Activities included ration ration

a fixed allowance of total feed for an animal for one day. Usually specifies the individual ingredients and their amounts and the amounts of the specific nutriments such as carbohydrate, fiber, individual minerals and vitamins.
 pack making, air raid shelter demonstrations, marching, rifle drills and a victory party.

A World War Two re-enactment group also dressed as German, British and US soldiers.
