The system for registering births and deaths in Middlesbrough Middlesbrough

The new system means an end to the old hand-written, stitchbound registers which have been in continuous use since 1837.

Online registration for marriages will be introduced at a later date.

Middlesbrough Registrar See domain name registrar. , Rob Wills, said: "We are proud to be doing something for the country in piloting this new system. It is a good challenge for us. People will still come to register births and deaths but the information goes straight to the national database.

"Everyone will notice these changes as we all register a birth, death or marriage at some time in our lives."
