, we think Luke got us exactly right. Together we've updated and reorganized our sections to provide you with a richer experience. The magazine now begins with Forward, a fresh appetizer course mixing news, amusement, and favorites like Rants & Raves. We've beefed up our service pages with information on personal finance, health and wellness, business travel, and more. Fast Lane, our new creature-comforts section, may highlight apparel, drinks, destinations, autos, electronics-whatever floats our boat, in other words Adv. 1. in other words - otherwise stated; "in other words, we are broke"

Finally, our new Spectator section expands our traditional arts and entertainment coverage with reviews, interviews, humor humor, according to ancient theory, any of four bodily fluids that determined man's health and temperament. Hippocrates postulated that an imbalance among the humors (blood, phlegm, black bile, and yellow bile) resulted in pain and disease, and that good health was , and style.

In this premiere issue, we've filled our pages with firsts, starting with our cover story: Our interview with Sen. Hillary Clinton marks the first time a presidential front-runner has sat down with the gay press so early in a campaign. With our issues so often used to polarize po·lar·ize

Nineteen years after we began to celebrate October 11 as National Coming Out Day, the act of brave self-disclosure has far outgrown its original context. Our coming-out package marks another first, as we meet folks who come out in contexts we never foresaw. In her first essay for our magazine, new columnist Jennifer Baumgardner Jennifer Baumgardner (b. circa 1970) is an author and Third-wave feminist activist. She resides in Brooklyn with her son Skuli. Baumgardner who identifies herself as bisexual had a long term relationship with Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls.  opens a window on the world of women who marry men and later fall in love with women. Political columnist Rod McCullom and returning columnist Dave White each survey the damages and silliness of pesky gay issues.

If you're one of the many friends who've been with us from the start, you may look at this lineup and wonder: Will the new Advocate still play rough? Will we still call our readers to activism? You'd better believe it.

We will never give up our mission to make life better for LGBT LGBT Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender  people. Yet the range of topics open to us, in our lives and in our pages, is broader than ever before. In every boardroom, every hospital, every civic organization, and yes, every military base, some of the most valued and talented members are gay. We find ourselves called to report not only on struggle but on success. We have helped to bring about a world where being gay or lesbian or bisexual or transgender transgender or transgendered

is a starting place rather than a destination.

So let's get started.
