A new king of the castle.


A NEW man is in charge at one of the region's best-loved landmarks.

Chris Calvert is taking over as manager of Bamburgh Castle Bamburgh Castle is an imposing castle located on the coast at Bamburgh in Northumberland, England (grid reference NU184350). History
Built on a basalt outcrop, the castle was known to the native Britons as Din Guardi
 on the Northumberland coast The Northumberland Coast is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) covering 39 miles of coastline from Berwick-Upon-Tweed to the River Coquet estuary in the north-east of England.  from Ronald Bewley, who is retiring after 12 years as keeper of the castle's keys.

In that time Mr Bewley has welcomed millions of visitors and brought couples

together after the castle became licensed for weddings.

Mr Calvert comes to Bamburgh from Scotland, where he has managed historic sites

including Iona Abbey One of the oldest and most important religious centres in Western Europe, Iona Abbey is considered the point of origin for the spread of Christianity throughout Scotland. Location

, Dryburgh Abbey and Smailholm Tower. He is joined at Bamburgh by his wife Grazia, a holistic therapist, and children Otello, 11 and Wallace, 10.

Mr Calvert said: "I am delighted to be running one of the nation's best-loved attractions.
