A new democrat. (Letter to the Editor).

I am responding to Ruth Conniff's recent article ("The Peace Candidate," April issue). Dennis Kucinich This article or section contains information about one or more candidates in an upcoming or ongoing election.

Now, before you take me as a rightwing fundie For the bay in Canada, see .

Fundie or fundy (plural fundies) is a pejorative slang term used to refer to Fundamentalist Christians. The term is intentionally derogatory, and is used most commonly by those opposed to the Religious Right movement.

the schools, all in the name of lower taxes, the Republicans are an abomination.

The Democratic Party needs to reach out more to the center. The platform needs to deemphasize abortion to make it the last resort, not illegal. But if more social programs were promoted as a chance to give each and every child a good life out of the womb, more and more women would freely choose to have it and raise it knowing that it can have the best chances possible in life.

Things have changed; the country has swung more to the right since 9/11. In order to move it back toward the left, we have to start at the center. Like it or not, abortion is one of the key swing issues that gave the GOP the White House and Congress. There are many potential Democratic voters who swing on one sole issue and end up voting Republican. If Kucinich would .frame this issue in this way, he would be an even stronger candidate.
