Send a Cow helps African farmers grow enough food to feed their families, sell their produce and develop small businesses that last. They do this by providing training, livestock, seeds and ongoing support, as well as helping families make the most of the land and resources they have. Rachel said: "Taking stock of my life one day, I realised I wanted to do more to help people in need. "I work as a doctor in a busy accident and emergency department, but I also wanted the chance to put some of the other skills I had to good use to benefit others. "Being a volunteer for Send a Cow gives me a huge amount of satisfaction. I feel it has given me the chance to use some of my strengths to help others. "I get to meet lots of interesting people, use my creative skills and speak to all age ranges and all kinds of people. "I first read about Send a Cow when it was featured in a Christmas appeal in a newspaper. "As I learnt more about the charity, I discovered that their approach stood out head and shoulders above other charities. I really believe it's the most sensible, effective, life-changing, down-to-earth charity out there. "My highlight as a volunteer was visiting projects in Rwanda in 2006. I wouldn't have missed that experience for the world as it gave me a personal connection with Send a Cow's work, its African staff and its beneficiaries. "I do talks to schools, churches, U3As, women's institutes and guilds, Mothers' Union etc. Christmas fairs, wedding shows, take stalls to hospitals and events and try and slip SAC Sac: see Sac and Fox. "I hope that my passion and enthusiasm shines through when I talk about Send a Cow and that I do the farmers in Africa justice when I speak. I feel so excited when I inspire someone to donate or do some fundraising
