Almost 92 percent of the past election coverage aired by the national networks was devoted to the presidential contest, according to figures from the Alliance for Better Campaigns. Two percent of the stories examined ballot initiatives or referenda and slightly less than 2 percent were devoted to U.S. House or U.S. Senate races. The presidential campaign also dominated local news coverage. Only 5 percent of all stories on local news shows were about local elections.
