A military send-off for hero Henry; FUNERAL.


BRITAIN'S oldest surviving First World War veteran and the world's oldest man will have a public funeral with military honours.

Henry Allingham Henry William Allingham (born June 6, 1896) has been the oldest surviving British veteran of the First World War since July 20, 2003 upon the death of then 108-year-old Jack Davis.  died, aged 113, in a care home for the blind at the weekend.

The Ministry of Defence said his funeral would be at St Nicholas Church in Brighton at midday next Thursday.

A spokesman said: "The funeral will be attended by Mr Allingham's family, who will be travelling from America and by senior representatives of HM Government and the Armed Forces.

Mr Allingham joined the Royal Naval Air Service The Royal Naval Air Service or RNAS was the air arm of the Royal Navy until near the end of the First World War, when it merged with the British Army's Royal Flying Corps to form a new service (the first of its kind in the world), the Royal Air Force.  in September 1915, transferring to the RAF in April 1918.
