LotInfo simplifies access to property information by using a map to access the data. Users can browse the map on the computer screen, click on a lot and display detailed information about any of the city's 950,000+ properties. The screen is designed so that the map and the information are displayed together and can be printed together for reports and presentations. LotInfo users can locate properties on the map by address, street intersection or block-and-lot number; measure distances; and place user notes on the map. An additional map feature displays each lot by type of land use (using a color coding system Noun 1. coding system - a system of signals used to represent letters or numbers in transmitting messages code - a coding system used for transmitting messages requiring brevity or secrecy ), so that users can search the map for properties of interest (e.g. vacant lots, multi-family housing).
