A look at relief efforts after Hurricane Felix

Nicaragua estimates it will need at least $30 million in recovery aid after Hurricane Felix. Here are some of the international contributions:

_ UNITED STATES: U.S. Navy's high-speed transport vessel HSV 2 Swift is picking up supplies at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and will provide food, water, blankets and plastic sheeting. U.S. Southern Command also sent an amphibious warship, the USS Wasp, to Nicaragua to help coordinate relief efforts, and soldiers were helping search the Honduran coastline for survivors.

_ CUBA: 57 doctors and nurses already on medical missions on the Miskito coast were treating survivors.

_ VENEZUELA: Sent a planeload with 9.6 tons of relief supplies, including food, medicines, construction materials and a disaster relief vehicle. The aid includes a 20-person team including rescue workers, doctors and damage assessment specialists.

_ HONDURAS: Defense Minister sent boats and a military helicopter to help with rescues.

_ WORLD VISION: Flying 8,000 pounds of relief supplies Friday to Puerto Cabezas, including shoes, clothes, temporary shelters and $250,000 worth of medicine.

_ INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS: Launched a preliminary emergency appeal for nearly $825,000, according to its Web site.

_ EUROPEAN COMMISSION: Sending $1.4 million for food, fresh water and medical supplies.

_ SAVE THE CHILDREN: Preparing to airlift shelter and nonfood items to the nearly 12,000 children and families reportedly forced from their homes, including 200 pounds of plastic sheeting, water and hygiene kits, and safe space kits with soccer balls, crayons, puzzules and toys.
