A little "counseling" goes a long way. (letters to the editor).Dear Dr. Rader, Your editorial ("Coffee, Cake and 'Counseling' with Miss Puckett," February 2001, page 10) is one of the most beautiful and insightful I have ever read! You have shown a true compassion compassion, n a profound awareness of another's suffering coupled with a desire to alleviate that suffering. and an aptitude for capturing the essence, through Gail Francis Puckett, of our wonderful family members and friends with Down syndrome Down syndrome, congenital disorder characterized by mild to severe mental retardation, slow physical development, and characteristic physical features. Down syndrome affects about 1 in every 730 live births and occurs in all populations equally. . I am the mother of a lovely 18-year-old daughter with DS and already I have seen the challenges she must face, so like any other young woman's hopes and desires. You have taken this a step further by understanding that "reasoning," within limited cognitive dimensions Cognitive dimensions are design principles for notations & programming language design, described by researcher Thomas R.G. Green. The dimensions can be used to evaluate the usability of an existing interface, or as heuristics to guide the design of a new one. , does leave the person with DS confused and conflicted many times. THANK YOU for caring enough to know and understand the real Gail Francis Puckett and all those with similar challenges. My spirits have been lifted and I now have something meaningful to share with MY daughter, Sydney, as she struggles with the realities and simple cruelties of living. As Sydney has been "fully included" in school, she has had more than her share of experiences and prejudices to overcome. The "counseling" sessions in which you and Gall were engaged, brought you both to the basic conclusion that each of us must feel loved. No revelations there, but simple truths. Thank you, too, for recognizing that "intellect A natural language query program for IBM mainframes developed by Artificial Intelligence Corporation.
