Breslow enjoyed a lengthy career in public health, including serving on President Truman's Commission on Health Needs of the Nation during the 1950s, and as the Dean of UCLA's School of Public Health from 1972-1980; although retired, he continues to be active in the field through a number of professional associations. He traces some of the major public health developments of the latter half of the 20th century and describes the principal aspects of his participation in them, demonstrating how society has coped with important trends in health problems, and how a public health worker can play a role in those social developments. Academic but accessible to the general reader.
