A lawsuit filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Norfolk, Va., claims that ads created by the California Milk Advisory Board, South San Francisco, are false advertising. The award-winning campaign for the California dairy industry features "Happy Cows" with the tagline "Great cheese comes from happy cows. Happy cows come from California." The animal rights group charges that these ads mislead consumers by incorrectly portraying idyllic conditions for dairy cows. The lawsuit asks for a complete suspension of the two-year-old print and television ad campaign.
