A judge's view: Tenacity drives ideas forward.

Byline: By David Williams

WE are now almost within touching distance of the day when all will be revealed - who are the businesses, companies and individuals who will take the prizes at the most prestigious Business Awards ceremony in North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England. .

The clock is ticking down and the short-listed companies have already been announced.

At this stage I always feel it is useful as a judge to take stock of how the competition has progressed this year and even more importantly whether there are any discernible trends evolving when we compare the 2007 entries with those of the past few years.

What is very apparent is that there is a growing cohort of smaller businesses, across all sectors in North Wales, who are demonstrating real entrepreneurial flair and more particularly tenacity in driving their ideas, products and services forward.

It seems to me that tenacity has to be one of the key attributes of an entrepreneur in 2007, whether starting a business or seeking to grow an existing well established enterprise.

Another identifiable trend in the entries for Achievement Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff.  2007 that seems to me to be paramount in setting up and running a successful business is the adoption of up-to-date IT developments, and embedding 1. (mathematics) embedding - One instance of some mathematical object contained with in another instance, e.g. a group which is a subgroup.
2. (theory) embedding - (domain theory) A complete partial order F in [X -> Y] is an embedding if
 them successfully within the enterprise.

For instance it is safe to say that a business without a well-designed, user-friendly and up to date website will not succeed. This was a constant feature within all the successful entries that the judges evaluated this year. Finally, there is most certainly a definite determination by businesses in North Wales, both large and small, to engage in international trade and business.

This is something that has certainly grown over the past few years and is often a common trend within the entries seen by the judges.

No longer does there seem to be any reticence ret·i·cence

Consumption of goods and services is assumed to produce utility (unless the "good" is a "bad"). It is often used when referring to a Goods and Services Tax.  but also ensuring that what we have available in North Wales is profiled and marketed right across the world.

What is absolutely certain is that at the Achievement Wales Business Awards ceremony on November 30 we can all be proud of what our North Wales entrepreneurs are achieving in 2007.
