A host of talented writers.THERE'S a not unusual political edge to the latest week-long Liverpool Writing On The Wall Festival, opening Monday. Ireland's most controversial writer, Danny Morrison, former editor of Sinn Fein's newspaper, features in conversation. Brian Richardson Brian Richardson (born c 1934 in Sheffield) was a professional footballer with Sheffield United, Swindon Town and Rochdale. Richardson signed for Sheffield United in 1954, aged 20, and stayed for 12 years, playing in 291 League matches. and Wally Brown Wally Brown (October 9, 1904 - November 13, 1961) was an actor, comedian, and long-time partner of Alan Carney. Wally was born in Malden, Massachusetts and served as a vaudevillian. also spell out how most schools fail black children by failing to provide true integration. Plays written by eight current prisoners from Walton Jail also feature in the programme of more than 30 events. Celebrity appearances, include Diana Melly - wife of jazz singer and critic George - with her autobiography charting their turbulent marriage. There are also readings by prize-winning Irish author Bernard MacLaverty Bernard MacLaverty (born September 14, 1942 in Belfast) is a Northern Irish author. MacLaverty was educated at St Malachy's College and Queen's University of Belfast, and has written the novels Cal, Lamb , with Martin Smith discussing his latest book, which reveals Frank Sinatra as a civil rights and anti-racist campaigner. All this, plus plays and workshops, makes for a busy week, spread over many venues. And to top it out, there's Pulp Idol, the literary equivalent of TV's Pop Idol, where writers have three minutes to convince a panel of professional judges that they should make it to next Friday's grand final at the Tea Factory.
