In this sequel to A History of the Jews and Judaism in the Second Temple Period: Yehud: A History of the Persian Province of Judah (2004), Grabbe (Hebrew Bible and early Judaism, U. of Hull, UK) fills in gaps in what is known about Jewish identity, religious practices, and daily life in and beyond Judah in the early Greek period. From a survey of the available sources, he covers the period from Alexander the Great's conquest to the Maccabaean revolt in the context of the wider Hellenistic world. The author notes that about half of the some 1,000 bibliographic items are from 1990 or later. This is the second volume of a projected four- volume history. T&T Clark is a imprint of Continuum.
