A high note.


A North East brass band is to represent the region at a national competition.

Dunston Silver Band, made up of 25 brass players, three percussionists and a conductor, will be one of two North East representatives at the National Finals to be held in Harrogate this September.

The band is a non-profit making concern which provides an opportunity for all brass players, of any standard, to join and enjoy their music.

They are performing again on July 1 at St Nicholas Church, Elison Road, Dunston with guest soloist Jayne Murrill on trombone trombone [Ital.,=large trumpet], brass wind musical instrument of cylindrical bore, twice bent on itself, having a sliding section that lengthens or shortens it and thus regulates the pitch. The descendant of the sackbut, it was developed in the 15th cent. .
