A guide to cruising Northern Australia; anchorages Cairns to Darwin, 5th ed.9780980390438 A guide to cruising Northern Australia; anchorages Cairns to Darwin, 5th ed. Richards, Leslie P. Niblock Publishing 2008 314 pages $55.76 Paperback GV811 Written for anyone considering sailing across the top of Northern Australia, this guide contains details of about 180 anchorages, with 20 new anchorages for this edition. Each entry includes cross reference to relevant navigation charts, Australian National Tide Tables, a brief description of the anchorage, and a mud map (a rough sketch to be used as a guide only). The book also gives warnings on crocodiles and quarantine areas, and other tips, such as dealing with the thick smoke from Aboriginal fires in certain areas, and obtaining food and water from supply ships as necessary. The author does not give course and navigation details, except when necessary for safety, because navigation is the responsibility of the individual vessels. Richards has spent over 20 years sailing across Northern Australia. Price is converted from AUD June 2009. ([c]2009 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR) |
