A great panda adventure.


In 1936, a dress designer and Manhattan socialite by the name of Ruth Harkness Ruth Elizabeth Harkness (21 September 1900–20 July 1947) was an American fashion designer and socialite, who traveled to China in 1936 and brought back the first live giant panda to the United States - not in a cage, or on a leash, but wrapped in her arms.  decided to embark upon a journey into the wilds of China. Her plan was to pursue the elusive and mysterious giant panda. Her mission was said to have been doomed from the start due to her lack of experience and the fact that no one had ever successfully captured a live panda. With the help of the dashing young explorer Quentin Young Quentin Young (born 1923) is Chicago-based physician who is recognized for his efforts in advocating for single-payer health care in the United States. An activist who opposed the Vietnam War and worked on the Civil Rights movement, Young is best known for speaking out about social , Harkness brings an infant panda from the wild, not in a cage or on a leash, but cradled in her arms.
