Caption: A grand opening was held recently for the new Jamaica First Parking 162nd-163rd Street Parking Garage in Jamaica, Queens, a 406-space parking garage with 5,000 s/f of retail space developed by Jamaica First Parking, a division of Greater Jamaica Development Corporation. This $8 million project was completed within the contract schedule, scope and cost, with significant savings through change order negotiations, value engineering and schedule acceleration. Thornton-Tomasetti Group, Inc. provided daily owner's representation during an 18-month period from initial planning through construction of this parking facility. The project architect was Gruzen Samton. The Design/Build team included Jeffrey M. Brown Associates, Inc., construction manager and general contractor, Carl Walker Engineers and Architects, DBI, Inc., construction consultants, and Thornton-Tomasetti Group.
