A grand idea.Byline: The Register-Guard Kenneth Raymen of Springfield has come up with the perfect way for the city of Eugene to honor As a verb, to accept a bill of exchange, or to pay a note, check, or accepted bill, at maturity. To give a new name to. Verb 1. rename - assign a new name to; "Many streets in the former East Germany were renamed in 1990" the Ferry Street Ferry Street (Chinese: 渡船街) is a street between Ferry Point and Mong Kok Tsui in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The street was on the shore of old reclamation before the new West Kowloon reclamation in 1990s. Bridge after the slain civil rights leader. Honoring King's memory in the local area is overdue OVERDUE. A bill, note, bond or other contract, for the payment of money at a particular day, when not paid upon the day, is overdue. 2. But the street originally put forth to bear King's name in the Eugene-Springfield area - Centennial Boulevard - came with too much baggage. For one thing, Centennial is about five miles in length. Two of those miles are in Eugene, and the remaining three are in Springfield. When the idea of renaming Centennial first arose, Eugene officials neglected to contact their Springfield counterparts so that the two cities could consider the idea jointly. Another problem with Centennial is that while its Eugene portion contains Autzen Stadium The stadium is tucked between the Willamette River and Coburg Hills. The uniquely shaped bowl blends in with the wooded Eugene landscape. The shape also allows for unique acoustics, making it one of the loudest stadiums in NCAA Football for its capacity. , the John Serbu Juvenile Justice Center and a few businesses and condo complexes, the Springfield portion of the street is mostly residential. Renaming the east end of Centennial would require massive address changes for those residences. So Raymen came to the Eugene City Council the other day with his idea for renaming the city's main bridge - and one of its busiest arterials - for King. Wisely, the council did not dismiss the suggestion out of hand. Some councilors did say, however, that the original proposal to rename Centennial Boulevard for King had come from the Lane County Board of Commissioners, and that perhaps the commissioners should be involved in the discussions. Involving the county would be fine - just as it would have been fine for Eugene and Springfield to jointly discuss the Centennial proposal. But Eugene could rename the bridge without involving either Springfield or the county. If those entities wanted to express an opinion, they'd be welcome to do so - but otherwise, the city could simply make the change. Focusing on the bridge has another advantage: no address changes would be required. In addition, renaming would end a minor bit of confusion created by the fact that the bridge and Ferry Street have no connection to each other. The bridge's name doesn't relate to the existing street, but to the long-vanished time back when a ferry crossed the Willamette River Willamette River River, northwestern Oregon, U.S. It flows north for 300 mi (485 km) into the Columbia River near Portland. Oregon's most populous cities are in its valley. The Fremont Bridge, a steel arch with a main span of 1,225 ft (373 m), crosses the river at Portland. where the bridge now stands. If Eugene did in fact rename the bridge after King, nothing would prevent Springfield, Lane County or both from naming a building, a school, a street, a road or some other prominent feature of the landscape in honor of King.
