King (PhD, linguistics, U. of Leiden, the Netherlands) presents an analytical grammar and structured lexicon of the Tibeto-Burman language of Dhimal, a little known and endangered tongue spoken in the lowlands of southeastern Nepal by about 20,000 people. Chapters cover phonology, nominal morphology, verbal morphology, and the sentence. The grammar uses some 1000 examples to illustrate usage and includes 17 texts and examples of riddles and songs. It also contains a Dhimal-English glossary and information on inflexional paradigms and kinship terms.
