A global problem; YourSay.I'M RESPONDING to the letter regarding the Libyan bomber, (Your Say, August 31). This is the sort of thing that adds fuel to the flames and, although everybody has the right to their own opinion, the Afghan war has split the country right down the middle and a letter like this does not help at all. It is a step in the right direction to show clemency Leniency or mercy. A power given to a public official, such as a governor or the president, to in some way lower or moderate the harshness of punishment imposed upon a prisoner. Clemency is considered to be an act of grace. , particularly towards a person near to the end of his life anyway, and if it can stop the atrocity of murdering women and children, so much the better. Unfortunately it seems a way of life because everybody is guilty of it, although two wrongs do not make a right. We had the British soldiers shooting women and children on Bloody Sunday Bloody Sunday (1905) Massacre of peaceful demonstrators in Saint Petersburg, marking the beginning of the Russian Revolution of 1905. The priest Georgy Gapon (1870–1906), hoping to present workers' request for reforms directly to Nicholas II, arranged a peaceful march , we had the Israelis committing atrocities in Palestine, and look what happened in Spain when the Spanish Basques Basques (băsks), people of N Spain and SW France. There are about 2 million Basques in the three Basque provs. and Navarre, Spain; some 250,000 in Labourd, Soule, and Lower Navarre, France; and communities of various sizes in Central and South blew a train up of their own countrymen. Things have to be looked at in the whole of the global sense. By education, and we hope by civilised means, we can prevent the murder of innocent women and children. Peter Kershawicz, Duddeston |
