A friend of mine?I am one of those gay men who found Brokeback Mountain and the soundtrack to be profound, beautiful, and sad beyond words. Willie Nelson's cover of "Cowboys cowboys, in American history. 1 Tory marauders, adherents to the British cause in the American Revolution, who fought in the contested area of Westchester co., N.Y. Are Frequently, Secretly (Fond of Each Other)" [Big Gay Following, March 28] contains, among other offensive lines, this gem: "Inside every cowboy there's a lady who'd love to slip out." One of the points that the film makes is that most of us are not effeminate ef·fem·i·nate adj. 1. Having qualities or characteristics more often associated with women than men. See Synonyms at female. 2. Characterized by weakness and excessive refinement. , nor do we have any desire to be women. Nor does love and sex between two men usually have anything with hetero hetero prefix, Latin, different role-playing. Nelson's song cheapens the love of men for men. By the way, there are some truly haunting haunt·ing adj. Continually recurring to the mind; unforgettable: a haunting melody. haunt and beautiful songs on the Brokeback soundtrack. I think Nelson's version of "He Was a Friend of Mine" is brilliant. Too bad he couldn't keep it up. GREGORY NORRIS Hoboken, N.J. |
