station to catch the train to the university in Preston. This gives me a chance to look through paperwork and prepare for the day ahead.

8.30am:Train pulls into Preston,I call into my office to check my post and emails.

9am-11am:My first lecture and semi-nar is to third year students, which covers the sociology of race community and culture. We deal with a wide variety of community issues such as race and policing, theLawrence report and the reaction of the Merseyside and Lancashire forces.

11am-12.30pm:I try and set aside a couple of hours for tutorials with individuals. Students, from first year to PhD,can book a time slot Continuously repeating interval of time or a time period in which two devices are able to interconnect.  for personal tutorial. Often we cover assignment or dissertation queries, applications for MPhil and PhD and we also talk through any personal issues they may have. For lunch I am lucky today to be having a quick sandwich at my desk!

2pm-4pm: Today's meeting covers a wide range of issues: from alley gating and community safety to police sickness and the Police Reform Act. This is a project in Liverpool 8 designed as a drop- in centre and advocacy for people with mental health problems and provides guidance and support.

6.30pm:Make it home, but not for long, and eat on the go -again. 7.30pm:I chair a police community forum at Parklands City Learning Centre in Speke. These forums are a good opportunity for members of the public to air their views and give opinions on current policing issues within their local area, and people get a chance to meet their local police officers.

9.30pm:Finally a chance to relax at home. Watch a little television -I am an avid news person and also a teletex Teletex (not to be confused with Telex or Teletext) was a ITU-T specification for a text and document communications service that could be provided over telephone lines. Teletex allowed for the transmission and routing of Group 4 facsimile documents.  addict!

11pm:Go up to my study which is a mass of papers, but after a little tidying up get on with marking essays, preparing lectures, reading police authority papers and finally some of my own research. I am currently writing my seventh book, which is about democracy in Africa. Other publications have been on subjects such as the black community in Liverpool, the political economy of Africa The economy of Africa consists of the trade, industry, and resources of the peoples of Africa. As of July 2005, approximately 887 million people were living in 54 different states.  and mental health, so I am kept pretty busy!
