A double life for two-band Lynval.

Byline: Andy Coleman

PLAYING guitar and singing in two bands is taking its toll on Lynval Golding.

The 58-year-old performs with Coventry legends The Specials and heavyweight dub outfit Pama International.

''I'm tired and worn out,'' he grumbles when we speak earlier this week. ''I've been working every day. I've been rehearsing with The Specials, shooting a video for Pama International's new single, Equality & Justice For All, then rehearsing for Pama's shows this weekend. Plus, it was only a week ago that I flew in from America where I live. It's really hard fitting everything in and it's all caught up with me this morning.'' Lynval promises to be bright eyed and bushy bush·y

''Some of the best gigs I've done have been in little venues,'' he says. ''Just before The Specials did the Glastonbury Festival

In 2006 Pama International, which also features Specials' bassist Horace Panter, Bentley Rhythm Ace drummer Fuzz Townsend, keyboardist Sean Flowerdew and singer Finny fin·ny

''I've know Sean and Finny for 15 years,'' says Lynval. ''Our new album, Pama Outernational, is our third. People ask if I'm going to make new music with The Specials but I tell them I have been making new music, it's just not heard a lot and Pama have been releasing on a small independent label.'' The two bands will come together when Pama open for The Specials on their forthcoming tour which includes a date at Wolverhampton Civic Hall Wolverhampton Civic Hall is a music venue in Wolverhampton, the West Midlands. It has been one of the most important live music venues in the county for several decades.  on November 9. Lynval now lives in Seattle, a situation that came about because of a failed romance.

''I've been there for 12 years. I was in a long-term relationship in England but one day my girlfriend said she'd met someone else.

''I didn't want to stay in Coventry so I got my backpack and went to Ireland. Then I went to New York New York, state, United States

Lynval says The Specials' reunion has been a great success. ''I can't believe it's been so good and so much fun. The togetherness within the band had been absolutely fantastic.'' But keyboardist Jerry Dammers is conspicuous by his absence.

''Jerry's our friend and we love him dearly. We'd love him to be there and it's quite a disappointment that he didn't play with us. ''The fans felt quite let down, but it's not through lack of trying."
