Environmental Tectonics Corporation will have installed its new Gyrolab GL-1500 Advanced Flight Simulator Spatial Disorientation Trainer for a customer in Southeast Asia by the time these lines are read. The GL-1500 is to help train high performance aircraft pilots to successfully cope with the ever-present challenges of spatial disorientation during high-speed flight. The unit combines state-of-the-art flight simulation technology, which includes simultaneous 360-degree motion in pitch, roll, yaw and planetary, with real-world, out-the-window visuals, realistic engine and flight sounds, detailed cockpit and closed loop flight controls and high fidelity flight models. The yaw system can accelerate to speeds up to 15 RPM and the pitch and roll drive systems provide motion cues at speeds from 0.2[degrees]/second to 90[degrees]/second. Since all axes of motion can be used simultaneously, the GL-1500 accurately reproduces the motion cues that cause pilots to mistake their aircraft position and motion with respect to the earth's surface. The system features 19 fixed-wing aircraft and 8 helicopter flight-realistic and fully automated profiles.
