Newcastle College Newcastle College is a further and higher education college in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is the largest college of its kind in the North East and claims to offer more courses in more subjects than any of its geographical competitors. design student Charles Percy-Raine will also feature alongside some of his heroes with his insect sculpture made from empty Spam tins. The 18-year-old said: "It is such an honour for me to have my work showcased in one of the North East's contemporary art galleries. I'm so proud of the way the sculpture turned out, especially as I originally set out with the idea of creating a futuristic car." Stacey Wilkinson, the gallery's manager, said: "We are delighted to showcase such a unique creation as the Spam insect as it is exactly the kind of contemporary art that we are passionate about. "At Opus, we like to promote the original work of upcoming artists, so it is great to be able to place such a remarkable piece from a local student in our gallery." Public viewing at the Opus Gallery, on West Avenue, Gosforth, runs from tomorrow until December 7. Doors open Monday to Saturday from 10am-6pm. Admission is free.
