A decade of growth and achievement for Partners in Motion.

With hundreds of productions in the can and nearly as many awards recognizing their outstanding achievements in doing so, it's been a decade of constant growth and achievement for Partners in Motion.

Producer Chris Triffo was the Regina-based film and video production company's sole employee when he founded it in 1993. But today, that number has exploded to 50, including Ron Goetz, who became Triffo's partner in 1997. In addition, the company has recently expanded its operations to include offices in both Toronto and Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

"It's a fairly significant increase as far as our industry is concerned," admits Goetz, who serves as company CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "The way that Partners has done it may be slightly different from other companies."

"We've known that to be a successful production company you must have a certain critical mass. You have to produce a certain volume of productions to maintain that."

Goetz adds that Partners in Motion retains the majority or all of the rights to each of its productions, allowing them to sell their products to various countries all over the world.

Partners in Motion has produced numerous television series such as Trading Places, Weather Untamed and Disasters of the Century. They then market these, and similar products, to networks including CanWest Global, Life Network, History Television, Discovery, The Learning Channel and HBO Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO)

, for example.

"It was important that we build up a library of productions we could sell worldwide," he says. "That money comes back directly to us. Therefore, we re-invest it right here in our local economy."

That business model has been very successful, as Partners in Motion now has productions in more than 150 countries. This has resulted in a regular cashflow allowing the company to support its operations, as well as develop future productions.

"This will in turn add to the assets of the company and we realize profits that enable us to continue our growth," notes Goetz.

Up until last year, Partners in Motion had loans with both the Provincial and Federal Governments, which have now been paid back. This is a significant step, says Goetz, as all of the financing now being undertaken is being done with the private sector.

"It shows that we can bank without the Government's support," he says, going on to praise those responsible for implementing an industry tax credit.

"Quite frankly, the tax credit that was developed five years ago by both the Federal and the Provincial Governments was the right thing to do."

"They stimulated the industry, they forced growth, and they rewarded companies for hiring Canadian and Saskatchewan talent," Goetz continues. "Perhaps from hereon here·on

, they stimulate independent growth, rather than have companies rely on them to create successful business."

Stimulation has certainly occurred at Partners in Motion, as the company has produced and completed more than 200 corporate productions and training videos throughout the years.

Partners in Motion has an expanding list of satisfied clients including: Royal Bank of Canada Bank of Canada

Despite this, Goetz says that the company has earned a somewhat misleading reputation as 'the documentary company.' He says one-off documentaries account for roughly five per cent of what they currently produce. But when you take home an Emmy Award Emmy award

for a documentary, as Partners in Motion did in 2001 for 13 Seconds: the Kent State Shootings The Kent State shootings, also known as the May 4 massacre or Kent State massacre, occurred at Kent State University in the city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of students by members of the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4 1970. , it's understandable how the documentary connection has stuck.

"We do love and appreciate them, but we learned very early on that you cannot build a long-term, viable business simply doing--"One-off", or individual/stand-alone documentaries because there's a very limited market."

"In contrast, our television series sell all over the world and those resources really make a difference in the company's bottom line," he adds. "And we've only been doing that in recent years, so we're really only starting to see the rewards." As a result, Partners in Motion is nominated for a 2004 Paragon Award in Export Achievement. The company won the award in 2002. In addition, Partners in Motion has recently named the National Film Board of Canada National Film Board of Canada (NFB)

the international sales agent for its entire library, which is expected to contribute to further export success.

Which means that it's quite likely the company's growth and achievements over its first 10 years will only be a fore-shadow of things to come.
