A day without a gay? In Wedding Wars one gay wedding planner's inspired activism prompts a nationwide walkout. But could it happen in real life? We rang up a handful of high-profile out gay wedding and events planners to find out.

DAVID David, in the Bible
David, d. c.970 B.C., king of ancient Israel (c.1010–970 B.C.), successor of Saul. The Book of First Samuel introduces him as the youngest of eight sons who is anointed king by Samuel to replace Saul, who had been deemed a failure.

What impact might a strike have?

The reality is, if we lose our gay planners, we're not going to have very good parties out there. There are two very specific party planners--gays and straight women. And the ironic thing is, the straight women have to surround themselves with gay vendors to make themselves look good. That's how I started my career. I worked for these women who were clueless clue·less

Absolutely, 1,000%.

What do you think of the idea of a strike?

As far as anyone sabotaging an event, it's appalling. It shows a great lack of professionalism. If someone hires you to do a wedding, you do it.

Would you take part in a strike?

If it could be done in a fun and successful manner without being bitter and twisted. But I wouldn't do it if my client's wedding was on that day--although I would [spread awareness and] get on the phone and send e-mails to my client list saying, "This is what's happening today."

What do you think of Wedding Wars' premise?

I think it's a phenomenal concept, and [the movie] will create an awareness amongst its straight audience of how many people they come in contact with that might be gay--and in positions to sabotage a lot of their world!

Would you take part in a strike?

Speaking as a human being, not an LGBT LGBT Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender  person, I would really have to look at why they were striking, what the outcome we wish to have would be, and if I can put my neck on the line for something I believe in. If so, I would in a heartbeat immediately.

 and home decor.

Can you see a strike like this actually happening?

It might happen in one town, but I don't see it happening on a nationwide basis. Everyone needs their income. Are we going to cut off the hand that feeds us? And if I say no to a job, the baker and floral designer and lighting designer I hire lose a job too.

Would you take part in a strike?

I believe everyone deserves fair treatment. But I don't think I would take part, because I take on such limited projects every year. I'm not very political. I beat to my own drum.

STEVE KEMBLE

Steve Kemble Event Design; TLC's Sheer Dallas

Credits: He has worked for such high-profile clients as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Starwood Hotels, and former president George H.W. Bush Noun 1. George H.W. Bush - vice president under Reagan and 41st President of the United States (born in 1924)
George Herbert Walker Bush, President Bush, George Bush, Bush
.

Have you ever experienced discrimination?

I worked for some extremely ultraconservative families who may very well be the ones going to the polls [and voting against gay interests], but they never, ever made me feel like a second-class citizen. And they know if they want their son or daughter's wedding to be fabulous, they need to let someone gay plan it!

Would you take part in a strike?

Yes! I would lead the pack! Maybe we should go on strike the day the movie comes out.
