. After a cymbal has been cast via the firm's proprietary process, it is heated in a rotary hearth oven just below its melting point melting point, temperature at which a substance changes its state from solid to liquid. Under standard atmospheric pressure different pure crystalline solids will each melt at a different specific temperature; thus melting point is a characteristic of a substance and .  to create greater malleability, hammered and lathed. In between each step, the cymbal is reheated in the hearth.

* The alloy Zildjian casts for its cymbals contains 80% copper, 20% tin and small traces of silver.

* Immediately after being cast, a cymbal gives off a musical sound if hit. If it does not give off a sound immediately, it is remelted for future cymbals.

* After being lathed, each Zildjian cymbal is hand-tested for pitch by one employee who has worked at the company for more than 40 years.

* For the final step of the process, cymbals are aged for several months before being sold. This aging allows the metal to "rest and relax." By the end of aging, the cymbal achieves a slightly different pitch.

* The Zildjian family had been manufacturing cymbals for musicians in Istanbul, Turkey, for three centuries (13 generations) before bringing its casting expertise to America in 1929.

* Following the Beatles' appearance on Ed Sullivan in 1964, Zildjian faced a 93,000 cymbal backorder. Things went back to normal in 1965, settling at 33,000 cymbals/yr.

* Zildjian works extensively with drummers developing new products. The firm's Paper Thin cymbal was based on a suggestion by drummer Gene Krupa Gene Krupa (January 15, 1909 – October 16, 1973) was a famous and influential American jazz and big band drummer, known for his highly energetic and flamboyant style. * Cymbals are cast in a variety of sizes. Splash cymbals have only 6 in. diameters while Ride cymbals are up to 24 in. diameters.
