A clash of ideals: Pope's hometown is nudist hotspot.


The town of Marktl am Inn Marktl, or often called Marktl am Inn ("Little Market on the Inn River"), is a village and historic market municipality in the state of Bavaria, Germany, near the Austrian border, in the Altötting district of Upper Bavaria. The most notable neighbouring town is Altötting. , Germany was quite a popular tourist destination A tourist destination is a city, town or other area the economy of which is dependent to a significant extent on the revenues accruing from tourism.

Benedict is the regnal name of the current Roman pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI (2005–present) and has been the name of fourteen other popes (and three antipopes):
  • Pope Benedict I (575–579)
 XVI's hometown, many pilgrims flocked to see the place where the new pope was born. And others, it seems, went there because, as one nudist website describes it: "The Schuetzing Valley is really happening in the summertime. There's something for everyone."

One can only assume that "something" is not referring to the religious souvenirs now available in Marktl. In several incidents that can only be described as incredibly awkward, papal pilgrims hiking in the nearby forests have crossed paths with nudist sex parties.

Local police are doing what they can to prevent these close encounters of the pornographic kind. Spokesman Franz Sommerauer told Ananova.com that regular checks are being made for immodest im·mod·est
