A NORTHUMBERLAND Northumberland (nôrthŭm`bərlənd), county (1991 pop. 300,600), 2,019 sq mi (5,229 sq km), NE England. Northernmost of the English counties, it is separated from Scotland by the Cheviot Hills and the Tweed River, and borders on the  builder is celebrating after moving into new business premises and creating a niche service to owners of historic buildings.

 Station, near Morpeth, launched A King Company in 2005 and has just moved into new premises at the old police station in Ashington from where he manages a network of Wansbeck based contractors.

His latest restoration project is a 14th Century pele tower tucked away in rural Northumberland. The building has 5ft thick walls and has historic building Grade II-Listed status.

Mr King will convert outbuildings into a kitchen and living area, with its listing status meaning that every building material used has to be authentic and in keeping with the rest of the building.

He is now finding that his specialism in old property restoration, improvements and refurbishments is attracting work from similar properties. He said: "It can be very difficult sourcing good quality period materials," he said.

"The building needs a lot of detailed planning and quality craftsman ship to ensure that it maintains the character and tradition that it deserves." Mr King has also received help and guidance from Go Wansbeck Enterprise coach Graeme Trotter who provided free, confidential and professional advice about developing his business.
