A breakdown of Guantanamo detainees

_The U.S. says it holds about 360 men at Guantanamo on suspicion of terrorism or links to al-Qaida or the Taliban but does not release precise figures.

_The military has determined that about 80 can be transferred provided it receives assurances from the countries that receives them that they will be treated humanely and will not be permitted to threaten the U.S. or its allies.

_The military expects that eventually about another 70 will be cleared for transfer.

_The U.S. expects to prosecute about 80 in military tribunals, including the 15 so-called "high-value" detainees whose ranks include Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks.

_Approximately 130 are considered committed Islamic extremists who the military says are too dangerous to release even though it has no plans to charge them with a crime.
