A blunt Papal warning.


Rome--In a 22 February (the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter) letter to the nine German cardinals, Pope John Paul Pope John Paul is the name of two Popes of the Roman Catholic Church:
  • Pope John Paul I (1978), who named himself in honor of his predecessors, Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI. Reigned for only 34 calendar days
  • Pope John Paul II (1978–2005), the only Polish Pope.
 has warned that Catholicism in Germany is seriously threatened by secularization. "We cannot shut our eyes to the fact that more and more people are abandoning the active practice of the faith, or accepting only a portion of the Gospel and the teaching of the Church", he writes.

The Pope has instructed the German prelates to give special attention to the formation of priests in seminaries. Then he notes that Catholic families must adhere to adhere to
verb 1. follow, keep, maintain, respect, observe, be true, fulfil, obey, heed, keep to, abide by, be loyal, mind, be constant, be faithful

 Catholic teaching as set forth in Humanae Vitae Humanae Vitae (Latin "Of Human Life") is an encyclical written by Pope Paul VI and promulgated on July 25, 1968. Subtitled "On the Regulation of Birth", it re-affirms the traditional teaching of the Roman Catholic Church regarding abortion, contraception, and other issues , Familiaris Consortio Familiaris Consortio (Latin roughly translated as "of family partnership", but titled in English On the Christian Family in the Modern World) is a Postsynodal Apostolic Exhortation written by Pope John Paul II and promulgated on November 22, 1981.  and the 1994 Vatican document cautioning against the reception of Holy Eucharist by divorced and remarried Catholics.

The Pope further cautions that the German bishops must uphold the teaching and discipline of the Church, including a ban on non-Catholics receiving the Holy Eucharist, and must curb excessive theological speculation. The recent declaration of the Congregation of the Faith, Dominus Jesus, is a solid foundation for ecumenical dialogue, he states. Finally, he warns that functions properly belonging to the priestly ministry must not be taken over by laypeople lay·peo·ple or lay people
