The Ovulators have a moody, spacious, soulful garage sound that's entirely their own. The female foursome from Eugene will headline an evening of homegrown indie rock Indie rock is a genre of alternative rock that primarily exists in the independent underground music scene. The term is sometimes used interchangeably with underground music as a whole, though more specifically implicates that the music meets the criterion of being rock, as  starting at 10 p.m. Saturday at John Henry's, 77 W. Broadway.

Jim Basnight has become such a frequent visitor to Eugene that it would be easy to mistake him for a local boy. A few more times through town and the former Rockinghams frontman front·man

 will get a key to the city along with his cut of the door.

Always on tour, Basnight is a Northwest rock veteran with power pop in his veins. Having also served with the Moberlys and the Jim Basnight Thing, his music encompasses a variety of different styles, including jazz, blues, R&B and New Wave.

This time, Basnight comes to the New Max's Tavern, 550 E. 13th Ave., on Saturday for a 9 p.m. show. He'll play songs from his recent album, "Recovery Room."

The cover is $3.

Megan Slankard Megan Slankard, born June, 1983 in Tracy, California, U.S. is a female vocalist, musician, and recording artist. She gained popularity when she appeared on an episode of TLC's What Not To Wear in July 2004. , Jim Brunberg

Saturday, Cafe Paradiso

Sweet-voiced folk singer Megan Slankard has been busy.

The 20-year-old singer-songwriter and guitarist made 100 stops in 60 cities last year, and she can only hope to do more of the same this year.

Slankard wrote all 13 of the songs on her latest album, "Freaky freak·y

Now on tour to promote the album, she will share the spotlight with Jim Brunberg of the band Box Set at 9 p.m. Saturday at Cafe Paradiso, 115 W. Broadway.
