A bare cross.

In his "Mel Gibson Noun 1. Mel Gibson - Australian actor (born in the United States in 1956)

asks "How do Christians and Jews Jews [from Judah], traditionally, descendants of Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, whose tribe, with that of his half brother Benjamin, made up the kingdom of Judah; historically, members of the worldwide community of adherents to Judaism.  approach the Cross?" Well, put it this way, the Cross that this Christian approaches is empty. I have no need for crucifixes of the cinematic variety. If I have any trouble comprehending the mystery of the Cross, I must rely on God's grace to help me understand. Meditating on the bloody details of Calvary will not do. Mel Gibson's preoccupation pre·oc·cu·pa·tion

with those details evidences a complete failure to understand the significance of the Cross.

I do not regard Gibson's movie as anti-Semitic, but I do not see the need to look at a man reduced to a scourged piece of meat on a cross. I take comfort from the fact that at the height of Christ's agony there was darkness throughout the land, thus discouraging voyeurs.

I will not encourage what I seriously regard as a voyeuristic and even pornographic fantasy by seeing the movie. The publicity flyers showed enough ultraviolence to convince me of the film's morbidity.
