SA * Dorris' first novel is an involving and insightful look at three generations of a family, told by a daughter, mother, and grandmother. It begins with 15-year-old Rayona, the daughter of an Indian mother and a black father. Rayona is dealing with her mother's illness and subsequent abandonment; her mother Christine tells the story of her own adolescence adolescence, time of life from onset of puberty to full adulthood. The exact period of adolescence, which varies from person to person, falls approximately between the ages 12 and 20 and encompasses both physiological and psychological changes. and relationships with the brother she adored a·dore v. a·dored, a·dor·ing, a·dores v.tr. 1. There is some strong language here, which may not be appropriate for all students.
