A World Coffee Conference in Brazil: coffee professionals will convene in the beautiful state of Bahia to discuss the current coffee market and lessons learned for the future.


On Sept 23-25, 2005, the 2nd World Coffee Conference will be held in Salvador, state of Bahia, Brazil, at the Pestana Hotel. The Conference will be followed by meetings of the International Coffee Organization (ICO ICO Icon (File Name Extension)

Under the auspices of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply and the International Coffee Organization, the 2nd World Coffee Conference will be chaired by Minister Roberto Rodrigues, and will bring together the world coffee community in Salvador, state of Bahia, Brazil, especially to discuss issues relating to relating to relate prepconcernant

 the conference's theme: "Lessons Emerging from the Crisis: New Paths for the Coffee Sector."

The conference will be opened by the President of Brazil The President of Brazil is both the head of state and head of government of the Federative Republic of Brazil. The presidential system was established in 1889, upon the proclamation of the republic in a military coup d'etât against the Emperor Dom Pedro II. , Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in a welcome and opening session that will have as special guests the Heads of State and Ministers from ICO member companies and other authorities. This special session will be co-chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of Brazil, Roberto Rodrigues, and the executive director of the International Coffee Organization, Nestor Osorio.

The program of the conference will be divided into three main subjects: Lessons from the Crisis, Coffee Policies in a Market Economy, and How to Develop a Sustainable Coffee Economy. These topics will be addressed in different sessions by a panel of distinguished speakers drawn from the highest levels of industry, trade, government, multilateral organizations, research institutes and academia including: Neumann Gruppe, Nestle, Kraft, Lavazza, Ueshima, Illycafe, World Bank, common Fund for Commodities, All Japan Coffee Association, Danish Institute for International Studies and Human Rights and many others.
