Charlotte is the largest city in the state of North Carolina and the 20th largest city in the United States. In mid-September, employees of the Continental General tire The General Tire and Rubber Company is an American manufacturer of tires for motor vehicles. General Tire was founded in 1915 in Akron, Ohio by William F. O'Neil. In 1943 General Tire branched out from its core business by purchasing the Yankee Network and the radio stations factory returned to work after nearly a year on the picket line. Members of United Steelworkers United Steelworkers (USW) historic labour union representing workers in steel, aluminum, and other metallurgical industries for much of the 20th century. In the U.S. of America Local 850 won a six-year contract, including a large increase in their pensions. At right, members of Local 850 take part in Charlotte's Labor Day parade. |
