``That was awesome. I didn't see that coming. It totally blew me away. That made my whole graduation,'' said Highland graduate Patrick Robins. ``He's Stevie Wonder. Everyone knows who Stevie Wonder is. It was cool.''

Senior Jason Faulk said students ``went wild'' when they saw Wonder ride up to the speaker's platform in a motorized mo·tor·ize

Wonder flew in from the East Coast to see the graduation of his son, Mumtaz Morris, whom few at the school knew was Wonder's son. Wonder was born Steveland Morris.

Rumors had spread around the school before graduation that Wonder might be coming, but students didn't believe it, one teacher said.

Wonder flew by helicopter to Fox Field in Lancaster and then was taken by limousine to the school in Palmdale, school officials said.

Principal Pat Iaccino said the school got a call at about an hour before the start of the ceremony that Wonder was coming. Iaccino said he didn't know whom Wonder was coming to see.

``We received a call an hour before going onto the field that he would be coming here to be here with family and watch him graduate, which was fine - just deal with it as it comes,'' Iaccino said Friday.

``They loved it. I think he is a very well-respected man in the industry and had nice comments to say to graduates about their future and overcoming obstacles, which is just great to the kids,'' Iaccino said. ``I was glad I spoke before him. It was not a distraction. You would think that, but the kids were just great. They may have been in shock in the remaining half-hour of the ceremony.''

``Seize upon that moment long ago

One breath away and there you will be

So young and carefree

Again you will see

That place in time ... so gold''

Iaccino said he had a few minutes to tell Wonder thank you, then Wonder talked with family members and left.

One parent said she was sitting in the bleachers In The Bleachers is a podcast and website that focuses on Division I-A college football. ``No one announced it. We all wondered why he was there,'' the parent said. ``Everyone started saying, 'There's Stevie Wonder.'''
