M.K. Kanke of Frazier Park led all area drivers with an eighth-place finish in last Saturday' Altamont 150, the ninth race of the Southwest Series schedule. Sean Woodside of Saugus, who was contending for the Southwest Series championship, broke his ankle in an auto-shop accident last week and didn't race in the Altamont event. Woodside was second in points and closing in on series leader Eddy McKean before he broke his ankle. Now the Saugus High graduate is expected to be out of action for the next four to six weeks recovering from his injury. Kanke moved into second place in the championship standings. Eric Holmes of Escalon won the Altamont race, the ninth different winner in nine races this season on the Southwest Series. The next race on the Southwest Series is tonight at Madera Speedway.
