A WINNING ATTITUDE EMMONS' FRIENDLY DEMEANOR RUBS OFF ON TEAMMATES.Byline: HEATHER GRIPP Staff Writer LA CRESCENTA - Dustin Emmons walks the halls of Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest. High of La Crescenta saying hello to almost anyone he passes. After school, he gathers friends and attends even the less-popular athletic events around campus, making sure Falcons' athletes have someone rooting for them, no matter their sport. He spends his free time helping out with a youth baseball team, offering high-fives and words of encouragement to the youngsters as they leave the field. "He's the friendliest guy you'll meet," said Chad Nacapoy, who has known Emmons long before they became Crescenta Valley baseball teammates. "He kind of talks to anybody. There'll be a stranger on the street and he'll go up and talk to him, He's just so friendly." Facing Emmons on the baseball field isn't such a friendly experience. Emmons entered the week with a 0.24 ERA. He improved on that by throwing six shutout innings INNINGS, estates. Lands gained from the sea by draining. Cunn. L. Emmons is 24-2 in his four-year varsity career. He is 5-0 this season, with 42 strikeouts in 35 innings. "Since Trevor left, all the big games have fallen on Dustin," Crescenta Valley coach Phil Torres said. "He pitches against the best, and those are the kind of games he likes. But the nice thing about Dustin is he's as good a kid as he is a pitcher. ... Around school, people talk to me about him, everyone knows him. People on campus know him not because he's a baseball player, but because he's a good kid. He's a great kid." He's also in great company when it comes to the Falcons' pitching elite. In addition to Bell, who was 24-11 in four seasons, Crescenta Valley has produced pros such as former major-league pitcher Jim Parque James Vo Parque (born February 8, 1976 in Norwalk, California) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who pitched for the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1998 to 2003. . There is also Jordan Olson, who led the Falcons to a Southern Section Div. I championship in 1998 and went 18-3 in two seasons. "He's right there, as good as anyone we've had," Torres said of Emmons. "He's won a lot of games and he's won a lot of big games. He's right up there. Trevor was a first-round pick and Olson won CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. They each have their own special thing. I don't have any problem putting Dustin out there against anyone." Torres put Emmons up against competitors from across the country last summer when he coached Emmons on the San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. His teammates return the praise. "He's our No. 1 guy," Nacapoy said. "He's our ace, and a great leader. He's just as good as anyone we've faced. He competes as hard as anyone else does.
